Getting engaged is such an exciting time! You are actually getting to plan your wedding, one you have dreamt of for a very long time and getting to share your future with the love of your life!

Or perhaps you've been engaged for a little while and suddenly your wedding year is here or you can now say "We're getting married next year!"

Whatever your situation might be planning a wedding should be exciting, fun, engaging and memorable.

As a bridal makeup artist I have shared weddings with hundreds of brides and share lots of moments of joy but also some of nerves and stresses.

My background before makeup is actually that of an event organiser which is why I love learning of all the tiny details my brides are planning.

I've put together some of my TOP TIPS for planning your wedding overall not forgetting some for ensuring your makeup is as fabulous as possible!

Hope you find them beneficial!

1) A lot of wedding suppliers operate a one wedding per day policy - if this is the case with anyone you are considering booking, it is best to act fast and snap them up sooner rather than later.

2) If you are getting married on a Saturday, a bank holiday or during the summer months you'll need to be working a little ahead of the game. These tend to be the busiest times for wedding suppliers and therefore book up extremely quick, often years in advance, even for the smaller elements!

3) By booking early you can often save yourself £££s! Many wedding suppliers will confirm your cost at time of booking and therefore if their prices increase it won't affect you.

4) Northern Ireland has an amazing array of wedding suppliers, so much so that I would end up with at least 5 photographers, 4 hair stylists, 3 florists and dear knows how many dresses if I was marrying my husband again. The best way of finding out who's who and who's fab is word of mouth from your friends, previous brides and other industry professionals. We are very lucky to have some home grown wedding blogs; one of my fav's has to be The Promise - check it out for lots of inspiration and all round amazing contacts!

5) Choose your photographer wisely! This is the person responsible for capturing your memories. You need to connect, to feel comfortable around them and ensure communication runs smoothly.

6) Makeup artists vary and there's lots of us out there to choose from which can be a little confusing! As with any element, do work on word of mouth recommendations, research your artist and their work. More importantly if looking for a bridal makeup artist, look at their bridal portfolio and real life brides! Sounds simple but in our world of social media we can be swayed by the number of 'likes' on a business page or fall in love with an Instagram filter which sadly doesn't exist in real life.

7) BE YOU! It is vital on your wedding day to be the best version of you! If you normally wear minimal makeup or a soft natural look you might just give your partner a shock when you reach the top of the aisle if you're wearing a red lip or a very heavy application. Likewise, if you normally opt for deeper lip tones, stronger eye makeup or a classic liner flick then opt for a flawless version of this on your wedding day.

8) I recommend having a trial approximately 4 weeks prior to your wedding. If you plan to wear a false tan on your wedding day then it is useful to also do so for your trial. Trials vary from one makeup artist to the next however my trials are an intensive two-way process of creating a look with my brides taking approximately 2 hours to ensure everything is just as you picture it! If you are unsure of your artist before booking them then simply have an application with them to make sure you are comfortable with their style and them as a person.

9) Consider your skincare regime in the months leading up to your wedding. Ultimately having your skin at it's very best will help your makeup to look even more radiant! If you have any concerns discuss these with your makeup artist and beauty therapist to find a programme that works best for you. Likewise if you experience problems with your makeup application such as shine coming through on the skin throughout the day inform your makeup artist so they can prep the skin accordingly and eliminate this for you.

10) By booking a professional bridal makeup artist you will be guaranteed to have photo perfect makeup into the early hours of the morning! Bridal makeup is often required to last at least 16 hours and needs to sit and photograph perfectly in a variety of lighting conditions. By booking a professional for all aspects of your wedding you can put trust in them to lead you through the day stress-free and allow you to enjoy every moment!
